Who's Max?
Shane Speal & Max
I am a producer/director at the University of Alabama Center for Public Television and Radio in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where I produce and direct documentary films. They tell true stories about people, places, or events. I research the topics and write scripts, work with camera crews to shoot the stories, and then spend lots of time in a room by myself editing. I've had the good fortune of finding some interesting people with fascinating stories to tell.
Wherever I go, people ask me about what I have done or what I'm working on now. This website is intended to address some of the questions that come up frequently. My employer's website (www.AlabamaTV.org) will tell you about the broad scope of work undertaken by the talented people I am lucky enough to work with, but this site will focus on my little part of that. It's not because I have a big head, it's just because people seem genuinely interested.
My work with the Internet grew out of my work with moving pictures. The net is a great vehicle for research, and I guess you could call me an 'early adopter' of the technology. By 1995, every time someone voiced a question in the office I directed them to a website that had the answers. My personal collection of links for research about Alabama grew into what you will find now at AlabamaInfo.com and TuscaloosaWeb.com.
I maintained my employer's website for years and many of the pages you find there are the fruits of my labor, but the site has been left dormant for the most part in recent years. I have also created websites for clients, but most of them have come and gone with the Internet boom and bust.
For now, I make occassional contributions to my employer's website, keep AlabamaInfo.com and TuscaloosaWeb.com updated with fresh information as possible, and plod away on this site mainly for fun.
In Summary...
Some people know me through my work in TV and film. Other people know me though my web projects. Most people just know me as that funny-looking guy. Now that you've read this, you know a little about what the funny-looking guy does.
